We May Lose Our Life Savings, but We’ll Still Have to Eat!
So, tomorrow is payday, and that means grocery shopping day. I was planning to do my monthly $300 trip to BJ’s, but with financial crisis looming, I’ve decided to change course. I think I will hoarde most of my $300, and instead see how cheaply I can shop at the local market, stocking up for just the next couple of weeks.
Before planning my menus I decided to do a little research. I am passing along the following website…it might come in handy.

Lettuce soup…yummy!! *gag*gag*

Survivor Gabon!
One hour to the Survivor season premiere! We’ve got in our “picks” to the pool that my friend runs…we’re placing our money on Matty, Marcus, and Crystal. Bet you Gillian is the first one out…the older ones always bite the dust first.
And for the record, I hope Ace and Randy strangle each other out of commission in an Alpha Male knockdown slapfest in the first episode…good riddance.
I Am SO Making This Today…
Okay, so this recipe came to me via e-mail, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. I will be making it later today, and will post a follow-up later. In the meantime, here’s the recipe in case any of you have a hankerin’!
MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that’s plain flour, not self-rising)
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
Small splash of vanilla
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.
Add the egg andmixthoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mixagain.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at1000 watts.
Thecake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t bealarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate ifdesired.
(This can serve 2 if you want to share!)

Okay, so I made this for lunch. (Did I say lunch? *ahem*) Here’s my take on it:
Extremely fast and easy to throw together. (I cooked it on 50% power FYI.)
It took me a few bites to get past the texture…it’s dense and a bit wobbly at first. It becomes more cake-like as it sits (so let it sit) but it remains very dense…but not good dense like a brownie…more like…hmmm…bread pudding maybe???
I was hoping for more chocolatey—I will play with the recipe to remedy that problem. (Oh, yeah…and for the record, chocolate chips are never “optional” in my opinion.)
A healthy dose of vanilla ice cream would have definitely saved this dessert. My suggestion…do not make it unless you have some ice cream in the freezer. Let me go finish it and I’ll let you know if I really liked it or not. I am still undecided. 🙂

Okay, since I couldn’t eat more than three more bites, I think I’m decided. Skip this one.
That cheesecake up there on the other hand…..
