More Fun with Straws

And in case you were wondering, no I didn’t get any housework done today…or projects for that matter.  I did squeeze in errands and two loads of laundry between photo taking and blogging however.  The day isn’t a total loss!

I dedicate these photos to Mr. STPhoto…who will be personally hugging Mickey on my behalf in a matter of days.  😉

Snowflake Ornaments…

Daily asked, so here they are!  The instructions…

You’ll need little styrofoam balls (1 and 1/2 inch):

Craft glue and glitter:

Corsage pins, and short pins:

Several varieties of beads of your choosing and—

A razor blade:

1) Cut balls into flat rounds using the blade, cover them with glue and a crapload of glitter, let dry.

2)  Load corsage pin with beads in a pretty pattern…leave about 1/2 inch at the end.

3) Stick pin into some glue, and into the side of styrofoam round.

4)  Continue, using a total of 6 corsage pins.

5) Continue the above process with six short pins and beads, inserting short pins in between the corsage pins.

6) Admire and photograph your handiwork…

Oh, yeah, and don’t forget to attach some sort of hanger from one of the pins…clear jewelry-making line, or a ribbon should do.

So easy!  Have fun!

You Know You Need to Take a Class When….

you spend an hour attempting to duplicate a photo of straws, and fail miserably!

One of my favorite flickr contacts (highlighted a while back at Shrew’s place) is James Christie.  (If you haven’t looked through his photostream yet, please do yourself a favor…be sure to grab a cup of coffee and a snack before you look, because you are bound to get lost in his beautiful works!)  Last night he uploaded this photo of straws.  I was fascinated with the play of the light through the straws, and since all was quiet in my house, decided to fetch a glassful and play.  It was an exercise in frustration!  Too much light, not enough light, too blurry, too far away, not far enough away, tippy tripod, overexposed, underexposed, and not nearly enough green.  But, after 66 photos of straws, and my assistant Zan holding a flashlight under the glass in a dark room (thank you Honey!) I got something passable, although not nearly good enough to warrant a comparison to Mr. Christie’s.

I kinda like this one too.

Here are my ghost straws…

And one more…

Make that one + one more!  🙂

Who knew taking a photo of something so mundane and simple, could be so instructional?

I love flickr.  And thank you Mr. Christie, for being an inspiration.
