Phineas and Ferb=Brilliant

Disney Channel runs in my household more than any other TV stations combined.  From Playhouse Disney shows in the morning to the afternoon and evening playlist of cartoons, Disney movies,  and sitcoms, we have reached saturation.  Some of the shows I enjoy, and some I merely tolerate, but one show in particular has grabbed my attention.

Phineas and Ferb is an animated series that follows two brothers in their daily escapades during their summer vacation.  Each day, the pair develop brilliant schemes, wild inventions, and imaginative plans in an attempt to stave off boredom, as their sister attempts to get them in trouble for the mayhem they cause.  As luck would have it, the evidence  inevitably disappears right before a parent can witness it, and poor sister Candice is foiled again.  Of course, there is also the subplot in which Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus acts as a secret agent to fight the evil scientist Doofenshmirtz.

One of the most amusing and brilliant pieces contained within each episode is a musical number.  The music written by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh is pure genius, and I can’t help but wish that we had more brilliant lyricists of their ilk writing  mainstream music.

Have a listen to a few of my favorites…It’s refreshing to see a “smart” cartoon.

Stuff

So, I’m not real good at keeping up these days.  Sorry.  So, I will give you the low-down in bullet form to catch y’all up.

  • The Book is awesome!  Finding Jemmy’s storyline incredibly fascinating.
  • The Balloon Fest was a bust—too much wind, too much fog, too much wind again, and then rain. Bummer.   I may have a few foggy photos to share, but nothing spectacular.
  • I *still* haven’t gotten around to buying new underwear for myself.  So much for  me and my “great ideas.”
  • Oh, yeah…and that “getting-back-to-photography” thing?  Not so much yet.
  • Been running to Big Girl’s Volleyball games.  She made the modified team and is Captain.  WhooHoo!
  • Lots of visiting lately…and cooking.
  • Another Carlos’ Bakery delivery…jeans getting tight.
  • Having a pool guy come Monday to “discuss possibilities.”  We’ll see.
  • Hating that Fall has arrived.
  • Wondering how women can stand to wear clothing once perimenopause strikes.  (Everything I own for the cooler months feels either too scratchy, too hot, too heavy, too tight, too slippy…just uncomfortable.  Any advice?  Please don’t tell me it’s time to go buy some stretchy waistband polyester pants…I will die.)
  • Finished editing Caring for Children web pages and waiting for feedback.  Holiday push starts soon.
  • Attempting to cut my monthly household budget nearly in half.  Sucks.
  • Toying with the whole Disney in spring idea, but feeling the money crunch.  A Pool? Disney? Or feeding and clothing the kids? Decisions decisions.
  • Officially gave up my PTA Treasurer position yesterday!  Whoo Hoo!
  • LOVING Glee!!!  Best best best show!
  • HATING Russell and Ben on Survivor….Evil incarnate.
  • Thought poor Chef Ramsay was going to have a coronary this past week.
  • Got my New Moon tickets already…Girls night out with Daughter, Sister, Neighbor, and Neighbor Daughter planned.
  • Sick of running to the Orthodontist already, and my family has many more years to go.  *sigh*

Okay…enough already.  You get the picture.  Life is good, life is busy, life is stable, and I am content.  The only thing I would change right now is my ability to wear a sweater for more than five minutes without wanting to claw my face off.  Oh, yeah…and money.  Lots of money would be nice.  😉

September 28, 1974

Thirty five years ago today, my Dad married my Mom (and me.)  We call it “Our Anniversary” because Mom and I came as a package deal.  I was a rambunctious four-year-old and he was willing to take me on despite my proclivity for reminding him, “I don’t need to listen to you! You’re not my Dad!”  He didn’t let that scare him off, and he never let the fact that we didn’t share DNA stop him from disciplining, encouraging, loving, supporting, and advising.

Well, thiry five years later and he has been everything a Dad should be and more.  The best gift my Mom ever gave me was marrying him and I will be eternally grateful to God for interceding and sending him our way.

It’s That Time Again!

It’s Balloon Festival time in these here parts!  🙂   The weekend will bring the big launch of over 90 balloons, but all eyes are trained to the sky during this week, because there are always a few early birds who come and take advantage of the quiet evening skies…you never know when one (or a few) will turn up.

Last weekend was a mini-launch of the Black Sheep Squadron, a group of balloonist who choose not to participate in the organized festival for reasons I won’t go into here.  About 20 balloons were launched, so we had a little preview of things to come.  Zan, the kids, and Neighbors chased one around the corner and even helped take it down.  I have no photos since I was home making sure dinner didn’t burn, but we got a bottle of champaign as a souvenir since Zan was the first on the scene where the balloon landed on school grounds!  (For those of you who don’t know, it is customary for the Balloonist to gift the landowner a bottle of champaign as a “thank you” for allowing the use of their land for touch-down and take-down.)

So here’s the first of what is sure to be *many* hot air balloon shots over the next week.  Enjoy!
