Fabulous!

So, in case you missed it, Shrew left me a great recipe in the comments a couple of posts ago.  I MUST repeat it here where everyone will see it because it was SO easy and yummo!!!

Here’s what it looked like fresh out of the oven:

And look at that sauce that’s underneath!!!

And here it is in my bowl:

WAY too good!  Thanks Shrewbie!!

Here’s the recipe from Shrew’s comment:

“I took this from “Cajunrecipies.com” but Betty says it was a WWII ration based cake…where ever it came from it is so yummy I dream about it.”

De-licious.

Thank You, Snyder’s!

Run, RUN I say!!!  Run, to your nearest market and treat yourself to a bag of these little beauties!  I bought a bag of these yesterday “for the kids” and the kids never saw them because they were gone before they came home.  I shared two of the seven servings with Neighbor (she needed a little afternoon pick-me-up) and the rest of them, somehow, disappeared into me by the end of the afternoon.  A real “guilt-free” snack at 140 calories per serving…(7 pretzels counts as a serving-  *cough*gasp*)

Pictured above is bag #2.  Something tells me the kids won’t see any of this bag either.

We May Lose Our Life Savings, but We’ll Still Have to Eat!

So, tomorrow is payday, and that means grocery shopping day.  I was planning to do my monthly $300 trip to BJ’s, but with financial crisis looming, I’ve decided to change course.  I think I will hoarde most of my $300, and instead see how cheaply I can shop at the local market, stocking up for just the next couple of weeks.

Before planning my menus I decided to do a little research.  I am passing along the following website…it might come in handy.

Lettuce soup…yummy!!  *gag*gag*

I Am SO Making This Today…

Okay, so this recipe came to me via e-mail, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you.  I will be making it later today, and will post a follow-up later.  In the meantime, here’s the recipe in case any of you have a hankerin’!

MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG  CAKE
1 Coffee Mug
4 tablespoons flour(that’s plain flour, not self-rising)
4  tablespoons sugar
2  tablespoons baking cocoa
1  egg
3  tablespoons milk
3  tablespoons oil
3  tablespoons chocolate chips  (optional)
Small splash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.
Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don’t be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

(This can serve 2 if you want to share!)

Okay, so I made this for lunch.  (Did I say lunch?  *ahem*)  Here’s my take on it:

Extremely fast and easy to throw together.  (I cooked it on 50% power FYI.)

It took me a few bites to get past the texture…it’s dense and a bit wobbly at first.  It becomes more cake-like as it sits (so let it sit) but it remains very dense…but not good dense like a brownie…more like…hmmm…bread pudding maybe???

I was hoping for more chocolatey—I will play with the recipe to remedy that problem.  (Oh, yeah…and for the record, chocolate chips are never “optional” in my opinion.)

A healthy dose of vanilla ice cream would have definitely saved this dessert.  My suggestion…do not make it unless you have some ice cream in the freezer.  Let me go finish it and I’ll let you know if I really liked it or not.  I am still undecided.  🙂

Okay, since I couldn’t eat more than three more bites, I think I’m decided.  Skip this one.

That cheesecake up there on the other hand…..
