Happy Hydrangeas

After spending last year sprucing up the inside of the house, it was time to concentrate some attention on the exterior of the house.  I do not possess the greenest of thumbs, and definitely wanted plantings that would take care of themselves for the most part.  An old photo of our house showed a hedge of white hydrangeas that (sadly) no longer exists in the side yard.  So after some research and an assurance that hydrangeas generally take care of themselves, we decided to plant a hedge of sorts around the front of the wrap around porch in keeping with the original plantings that surrounded the house.  We mixed White Annabelles with Purple hydrangeas, and crossed our fingers that they would survive their first season.  Not only are they surviving, but they are thriving!  The purple plants are absolutely gorgeous, and the whites are slowly coming to bud and growing stronger.  I love the variation in color as the flowers age…just beautiful!

Inspir-Ivory

I was inspired by our cyberfriend IvoryHut today!  She had her first contributing post over at Pioneer Woman’s website (added into my blogroll…check it out!)  Ivory is a wonder at macro photography and shared some excellent pointers on photographing flowers.  Although I didn’t have time to go all macro, I did give my mums a little attention this afternoon.  The colors this year are amazing!

Flora, Fauna, and Merry-weather…

We were fortunate enough to visit Disney during the Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot.  (Zan would say we were UN-fortunate, because I went all-out-camera-crazy that day.)  The gardens and displays are magnificent, and the scent of the roses are all-encompassing.  Lovely.

I also took a “whole lotta” flower and animal photos over at Animal Kingdom.  It was a treat to visit there on a 67 degree day, as I had the energy to look around.  Anytime I’ve been there previously it’s been in the 90’s and swelteringly jungle-like.

So enjoy a few of my favorites, and check out flickr if you want to see more.  😉
