Dumped On

We got about 20 inches over the course of three days as two storms hit us back to back.  The snowbanks are huge!  And it is so pretty and Christmassy here, I cannot believe our good fortune!  This is the type of Christmas all the songs refer to.  On the downside, it is extremely cold, with zero degree wind chills.  It’s also a bit challenging to get around with the snowbanks so high and the side roads still covered.  Ah, well…being stuck inside has it’s benefits, and we had some fun yesterday making candy with the girls.  Some photos of the weekend are below.

Mid-storm cleanup…

After Storm #1…(actually storm #2 in a week…storm #2 and #3 hit back to back.)

Frozen van…

Buried deck…

And our little minty critters…

Hope everyone else made it through without complications!  🙂

I’m jealous, we only got 18 inches of snow. I’ve cleaned out the driveway twice and will be doing it again tonight. Hey, rain by the weekend. Got to love our upstate NY weather,eh?

We got the back to back storms here in Western MA too – I’d say we ended up in the ballpark of 14-16 inches here. Nasty cold here today too with the windchills.

I love your minty critters! What are they made of?

karma…the critters are made by mixing together 1 tablespoon of softened butter, 1 tablespoon of light corn syrup, 1/8 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of mint extract. Then you begin slowly, a spoonful at a time, mixing in 1 cup of powdered sugar. At some point it becomes easier to handle by hand, and you start kneading in the powdered sugar until you get a doughy ball. You add food coloring to bits of it from there. (I didn’t manage to get a full cup of sugar into either of my batches, but they were the right texture to work with anyway.)

Wait. It’s like I’m looking out my own window! How’d you get pictures of my beautiful back deck? HA! I WISH that were my back deck.

Yep, we got 2 feet from storm #2 and #3. Crazy!! No doubt about a white Christmas around these parts this year.

Love the critters. Merry Christmas to all!
