Phineas and Ferb=Brilliant

Disney Channel runs in my household more than any other TV stations combined.  From Playhouse Disney shows in the morning to the afternoon and evening playlist of cartoons, Disney movies,  and sitcoms, we have reached saturation.  Some of the shows I enjoy, and some I merely tolerate, but one show in particular has grabbed my attention.

Phineas and Ferb is an animated series that follows two brothers in their daily escapades during their summer vacation.  Each day, the pair develop brilliant schemes, wild inventions, and imaginative plans in an attempt to stave off boredom, as their sister attempts to get them in trouble for the mayhem they cause.  As luck would have it, the evidence  inevitably disappears right before a parent can witness it, and poor sister Candice is foiled again.  Of course, there is also the subplot in which Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus acts as a secret agent to fight the evil scientist Doofenshmirtz.

One of the most amusing and brilliant pieces contained within each episode is a musical number.  The music written by Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh is pure genius, and I can’t help but wish that we had more brilliant lyricists of their ilk writing  mainstream music.

Have a listen to a few of my favorites…It’s refreshing to see a “smart” cartoon.
