Attack of the Joni

It’s a big night ya know.

Little Girl, can’t wait, but Big Girl SWEARS she doesn’t want to watch it—says she will suffer through for the sake of family time.  “But I know I won’t like it!” she says.  Apparently fourth grade is the cut-off in these here parts for Jo-Bro love.  Or maybe it’s her father’s fault…He calls them the Jone-ass brothers…and according to him they’re starring in Camp Suck.

*sigh*  See what I have to deal with?

(But here’s a little secret…I’ll bet he’ll be whistling some Joni tunes while he works on the deck this weekend. *wink*)

Ha! Jone-ass brothers! My big girl would love that. She can’t stand them, little girl (will-be 6th grader) doesn’t care one way or another. But big girl does have Joni-obsessed friends, so 4th grade must not be a cut-off ’round here.

Not whistling a single tune. It was so NOT High School Musical in all bad ways. For those of you without younger or tween children in the house, let me tell you that the High School Musical and High School Musical 2 are alot like the Lord of the Rings series to me. They Spoil you for anything that comes after and fails to reach the same level of amazing. However CAMP ROCK is more what you should expect from a Disney Channel Native Movie. Bad acting, Over Acting, A Thin Plot, Forgetable Songs, Weak Dancing. I know this sounds highly critical but I expected alot more from Disney after they put out HSM. Now how were the Jonass Bros. They were some of the best moments in the movie. They are so young-young-young (more young’s ad-nauseum) that you have to forgive how naive they are. They can sing and I do find them amusing. I am unable to hate on them as there is little to hate. They are the latest boy band phenomenon. They will not be the last. The tough part for them will be when they have to become real musicians. Will they be another Hanson or will they take off like a Justin Timberlake. I couldn’t tell you how it will go for them from here, but I think they could make the conversion to serious music after they have some more experience.

Okay, so…Zan’s giving the Jonas Brothers kudos??? What’s with that?

So, I don’t agree…I think they COULD sing with some vocal coaching…what they do is force sound through their vocal chords and call it singing. Sorry. Just my opinion. I do give them credit for being musicians…I didn’t realize until recently that they write their own stuff. I’ll defiinitely give them a hand for that. They ARE very young, and I must admit their personalities have grown on me as I watch all the backstage Disney stuff. They really are quite adorable. If I was a tween again, I’d have a Teen Beat poster of Joe hanging in my locker. And as far as acting, Joe has it all over his brothers.
I really do wish Disney would stop making actors sing, and singers act though. That being said, their formula has been quite successful amongst the youngsters out there, so who am I to say differently?
All in all, Camp Rock was exactly what Zan said…predictable, thin plot…and extremely stereotyped characters. You have the poor talented girl who gets a shot at her dream, the nasty rich girl who has everything except parents who care, the bad boy teen pop star who becomes nice again within the first 15 minutes of the movie…teen love, instant forgiveness of wrongs, mean girl becomes nice at the end. You know…you’ve seen it before. A definitive Disney hit! lol
Little Girl used an itunes gift card from Christmas to buy the album…Disney knows their audience…and it isn’t critical parents.
